When starting ablution

    In the Name of Allah

Abu Dawud, Ibn Majah, Ahmad, 'Irwa'ul-Ghalil 1/122.

Upon completing the ablution

I bear witness that none has the right to be worshiped but Allah alone, Who has no partner; and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and His Messenger.

    Muslim 1/209.

  2. 1×

O Allah, make me among those who turn to You in repentance, and make me among those who are purified.

    At-Tirmizi 1/78, Al-Albani, Sahih At-Tirmizi 1/18

  3. 1×

Glory is to You, O Allah, and praise. I bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but You. I seek Your forgiveness and turn to You in repentance.

    An-Nasa'i, 'Amalul-Yawm wal-Laylah, p. 173, Al-Albani, 'Irwa'ul-Ghalil 1/135, 3/94.

When going to the mosque

O Allah, place light in my heart, and on my tongue light, and in my ears light and in my sight light, and above me light, and below me light, and to my right light, and to my left light, and before me light and behind me light. Place in my soul light. Magnify for me light, and amplify for me light. Make for me light and make me a light. O Allah, grant me light, and place light in my nerves, and in my body light and in my blood light and in my hair light and in my skin light. O Allah, make for me a light in my grave... And a light in my bones. Increase me in light, increase me in light, increase me in light. Grant me light upon light.

    Al-Bukhari 11/116 (Hadith no. 6316), Muslim 1/526 (Hadith no. 763).

Upon entering the mosque

He begins with his right foot and says: I seek refuge in Almighty Allah, by His Noble Face, by His primordial power, from Satan the outcast. In the Name of Allah, and blessings and peace be upon the Messenger of Allah. O Allah, open before me the doors of Your mercy.

    Abu Dawud, Sahihul-Jami' As-Saghir (Hadith no. 4591), Ibn As-Sunni (Hadith no. 88), Abu Dawud 1/126, Sahihul-Jami' 1/528, Muslim 1/494, Ibn Majah 1/128-129.

Upon leaving the mosque

He begins with his left foot and says: In the Name of Allah, and blessings and peace be upon the Messenger of Allah. O Allah, I ask You for Your bounty. O Allah, protect me from Satan the outcast.

Al-Hakim 1/218, Al-Bayhaqi 2/442, Al-Albani, Silsilatul-Ahadith as-Sahihah 5/624 (no. 2478); see the previous supplication (no. 20). The addition 'O Allah, protect me from Satan the outcast' is from Ibn Majah, Sahih Ibn Majah 1/129.

Upon hearing the athan

  1. 1×

Repeat what the muazzin says, except for when he says: Here you should say: "There is no might and no power except by Allah".

    Al-Bukhari 1/152, Muslim 1/288.

  2. 1×

After the muazzin says the words of affirmation of Faith (Shahadah), say: "And I too bear witness that none has the right to be worshiped but Allah alone, Who has no partner, and that Muhammad is His slave and His Messenger. I am pleased with Allah as my Lord, with Muhammad as my Messenger and with Islam as my religion".

    Muslim 1/290, Ibn Khuzaymah 1/220.

  3. 1×

One should then send prayers on the Prophet (ﷺ) after answering the call of the muazzin.

    Muslim 1/288

  4. 1×

O Allah, Lord of this perfect call and established prayer. Grant Muhammad the intercession and favor, and raise him to the honored station You have promised him, verily You do not neglect promises.

    Al-Bukhari 1/152, Al-Bayhaqi 1/410

  5. 1×

One should also supplicate for himself during the time between the azan and the iqamah as supplication at such time is not rejected.

    At-Tirmizi, Abu Dawud, Ahmad, Irwa' al-Ghalil 1/262
