Questions people ask
What is the Nisab?
The least wealth on which zakat is due: the value of 85 g of gold or 612.36 g of silver. The calculator works it out from today's price of a gram in your currency. If what you own, less what you owe, reaches it — and has stayed above it for a full lunar year — 2.5% of it is due.
Should I use the gold or the silver Nisab?
Both are recognised. Silver gives the lower threshold, so it includes more people — many scholars prefer it because it favours the poor. Gold gives the higher one. The calculator starts on silver; choose the standard your scholar or community follows.
Why does jewellery purity matter?
22K jewellery is 91.6% gold. Zakat is on the gold in it, not on its weight. Choose the purity beside each weight — 24K is pure gold, 925 is sterling silver — and only the metal in the piece is counted.
Which debts can I take off?
What you must pay within the next 12 months: card balances, loans and instalments falling due this year, and bills you have already run up. For a long loan such as a mortgage, enter only the instalments due in the next 12 months, not the whole balance.
When is zakat due?
Once your wealth has stayed at or above the Nisab for a full lunar year — the hawl, about 354 days. The FirdawsWay app can save a calculation, start that year and remind you when it is complete.
Where do the gold and silver prices come from?
FirdawsWay checks the day's spot prices for gold and silver twice a day and converts them into your currency. The calculator says which day they are from, and warns you when they are old. You can type your own price instead — a local jeweller's rate is a good figure to use.
Is what I type sent anywhere?
No. The sums are done in your browser. The page asks FirdawsWay's server for one thing — today's gold and silver prices in the currency you choose — and sends nothing you type. Nothing is stored.
Save it, and be reminded at your hawl
FirdawsWay keeps your calculation, starts your lunar year and tells you when it is complete — with today's prices filled in whenever you come back. Qibla, Reels and the live Makkah & Madinah streams are not available in the Windows app.
