Questions people ask
Why can the Hijri date be a day different where I live?
Each Hijri month begins with the new crescent moon. The Umm al-Qura calendar on this page is calculated in advance, while many countries begin the month when the crescent is actually seen, or when their own authority announces it. So the date where you live can be a day ahead of this one or a day behind it, and rarely two.
What is the Umm al-Qura calendar?
It is the Hijri calendar Saudi Arabia publishes, which fixes in advance the day each month begins. The FirdawsWay app and this site read the same Umm al-Qura table, so both show the same date.
Can the FirdawsWay app follow my country's moon sighting?
Yes. In Settings › General › Islamic Calendar, Auto-detect is on by default and applies the correction published for your country, and you can also move the date yourself by up to two days either way. Every Islamic date and occasion in the app moves with it.
Which dates can the converter handle?
Any day from 14 March 1937 to 16 November 2077: 1356 to 1500 AH, the span of the Umm al-Qura table. Outside it there is no published date to convert to, only an estimate, so the converter says so rather than guess.
